recommendations please

I'm looking at new boots as well, the Salomon quest boots get great reviews.

I found in Die, a small town southern Grenoble, a shoemaker who only repaired Mountain boots, nothing else.
His opinion was that the Meindl Perfekt would be absolutely worth the money.

The upper part of this shoe isn't stiched together, how you find it at most other boots.
The Meindl Perfekt is folded out of one peace of leather, so no seams invide water to enter the boot.

(I don't own them because I have to buy handmade ones for my mesures, tailored on the body.)

This is a cheaper option:
Meindl Badile
(light version for flat country and light hills)
HERE THE SEAM IS WELL DONE

Here the seam is well done too.
It is a waterproof cheap boot. It is impossible to change the soles.
Made for flat country. Relativly light.

And here a boot with WRONG MADE seam:

Water can enter here. Most shoes now a days are constructed in this cheap and idiotic way.

The same part correctly made. Water can float down easily. This shoe is made in the right way:

Are you looking for an out and out Hiking boot.....or a field boot for general use?............. have you given something like this a thought Matt?
Calf length....no laces........slip on and off.
I use these boots summer and Winter, rain, snow and lots of cow :poo::D.....in the woods and across fields.

Toggi Columbus Calf Length Boot

tried them bill if you remember didnt get on with them as i have a damaged foot from a car accident and found then to tight across the top of my foot

If you can find some near you, I would recommend these. Might need to add a bit extra to the £200 though. They come in 3 different width sizes. Ill be getting some shortly, though I will travel to N.Yorks where they are based and have them custom fitted.

If you have a damaged foot it could be intelligent to look for a shoemaker who tailors you a boot especially for your mesures.
The handmade Geiger Bernina in individuel mesures costs only 320,-€.
That is round about 70,-€ more than for a Meindl in the same quality in its standard mesures.
That means:
Mountain boots in individual mesures do not cost necessarily an immense amount of money! The reason is that high end mountain boots are always handmade in Europe.
Specialists like Geiger and Steinkogler are using the same material and tools to produce the boots in individual mesures like Meindl, so you have more or less to pay the additional 70€ only for the appointment with the master.
If the boot is constructed in the conservative way like I showed in the photos before, every shoemaker master is able to change the soles if necessary. (Zwiegenäht/double stiched). The boot will last a lifetime, if you use them a lot 20Years around, so far you tread them well.

This investment is simply intelligent if you haven't totally equal feet.
