North West Bug-out Hq?

Your better off with camping meets as it gives you mobility, different locations to suit different members.
for once Harry is quite correct, have your meet at the same place every time and all you'll get is the same people attending each time.

Aye.. and given the variety of locations, more than one group.

THIS is what I was hoping to stimulate.. a discussion with meaningful, useful ideas :)

yes probably several groups, at the very least a South one, a North one, an East one and a West one. those would be the main ones, with sub groups off them.

And a central meet of group leaders from time to time? PrepperNet <GRIN>

(meaning a person-to-person net)

Hmmm... a bit like (for the war people) the resistance was set up.. cells...?

Individuals in areas, to groups, to local central to national central?

Naaaahhhh! let's just get together?

Some are, and that's my point - why reinvent the wheel? I'm not sure I'm with you on the security issues though Keith.
Aww Cm'on.. SECURITY? Let's face it, we wouldn't be talking on this here if security was a worry! Security from WHAT?
The Gov't wouldn't care, the UK Forces would probably be interested in joining, the cops would have too much to do...
We're not discussing armed insurrection or revolution, just a meeting place!

I was thinking more along the lines of personal security, letting other people know what you have, where you keep it, & where you live. If you know these people & trust them fine, but otherwise it can be a real security issue. You don't want any over enthusiastic bushcrafters turning up at your house for instance without an invite. You don't want anyone running off at the mouth down the local pub either. I am surprised that you don't see these as being a problem. Best of luck.
Keith.

Agreed Keith, but what I can gain from this is the long term security of increasing the network of people that are interested in survival. We are going to have to trust someone at some point because from a societal point of view family groups will be unlikely to be able to stand alone long term...kids need education to be able to fulfill their potential, they grow up and need a partner, etc.
The human ability to co-operate has always made us stronger.

in the past these groups have always been on tribal lines and probably will be again. these tribal groups become a community then eventually a village, but that village will be a long time after, probably years and maybe decades.

In a way, Keith, we are already doing that by talking on a public forum. One does not have to log in to read the posts.

To be fair Harry there isn't much point in prepping against the possibility of everything being perfectly peachy on a nice sunny day, we prep against the bad times so that tends to be what we discuss.

Ystranc, my outdoor 'thing' is winter camping/survival...sunny days are a bonus.

Nobody here really talks about prepping, just about how full their freezer is and hoping for a mass die off; thats not prepping.

The only member here who talks about skills is Keith; I think he's stuck in a time warp thats not really great these days IMHO but I still admire his skill set.

True, but nobody is giving anything away on this forum. In a meeting face to face you can bet your bottom dollar that some of those other people that you are not familiar with will be asking questions. Maybe I am being over cautious, but it has been my experience that word gets around. If I were a part of such a venture, I think I would prefer new members coming into the group on recommendation only. But like I said, maybe I am making too much of this.
I do hope it all works out well for you all.
Keith.

I think you make a fair point m8 :)

I have met maybe 8 people through prepping forums, all away from my home, usually places like The Wilderness Gathering etc., only one has ever been to my house-once, and he has now left the area , nobody else knows where I live. I don't socialise and I don't go to the pub( don't drink). I think my opsec is secure :D

No closed mind here LW, just waiting for something really useful to be posted here. Far too much doom and gloom posted these days.

Please then contribute some positive stuff to help lift the mood Harry, we are all here to learn. We have a great new skills section managed by Keith, share some of your ideas there m8 :)

there is plenty of prepping in the Archives if people would only spend the time to lift a finger and click on the relevant sections. I didn't put all the threads there just for my own benefit.
